Who we are

West of England Women’s Commission brings together leaders united by a shared mission, we work to improve the lives of women and girls across the region by addressing systemic challenges and driving meaningful change.

What we cover

Our main areas of focus include women’s safety, healthcare, education and STEM, economy, business and skills and transport. Our task groups map to these areas.

When we began

Launched in early 2025, the Commission meets bi-monthly to set priorities, review progress, and coordinate action. It builds upon the work of Bristol Women’s Commission which ran from 2013-2024.

Where we work

We cover the West of England Mayoral Combined Authority region, which comprises:

  • Bristol

  • Bath and North East Somerset

  • South Gloucestershire

Why we exist

Women and girls continue to be held back by societal, economic, cultural and political barriers. Only by bringing leaders together at a strategic level will we see the meaningful change we need.

How we make change

We focus on partnership, evidence, and action. Our approach includes:

  • Building cross-sector regional partnerships with public, private, and community organisations

  • Publishing evidence-based reports and running targeted campaigns

  • Developing practical, impactful local solutions through dedicated task groups

  • Advocating for stronger protections and removing systemic barriers—locally and nationally
