Speaking up for women in the West

West of England Women’s Commission met for the first time under our new leadership on 21 May 2026 to discuss progress and plans for identifying and tackling women’s inequality in the region.

Dr Ketch Adeeko from University of Bristol Business School discussed opening doors for female entrepreneurs.

Sadie Fulton from Trades Union Congress (The TUC) outlined the work being done by trade unions to advance women’s rights at work.

Charlotte Stone of Avon & Somerset Police & Crime Commissioner’s Office offered an update on government plans for safe streets for women and girls.

Diane Bunyan, Commission Co-founder and Chair of the Women & Economy Task Group provided a preview of the Commission’s upcoming seminar on improving economic conditions for women, particularly those in low paid employment.

And of course, our Co-Chairs Zara Nanu MBE and Dr Penny Gane lead the discussion on how the Commission is uniting leaders across the West to address the issues that really matter to women.

Stay tuned for further updates in the coming weeks.
