Tackling misogyny and violence against women and girls

Tackling misogyny and violence against women and girls isn’t something that happens in isolation - it requires all services working together, and preventative action from early years onwards to address the issue.

Today the West of England Women's Commission met to discuss ongoing work towards tackling misogyny and violence against women in the region.

Speakers today included:

  • Sarah O'Leary - Chief Executive of Next Link Domestic Abuse Services and Chair of our Tackling Misogyny Task Group, who was joined by her colleagues Sophie Cooper and Sian Scholes who discussed their ongoing work on challenging misogyny and domestic abuse

  • Alice Hocking - SARSAS (Somerset and Avon Rape and Sexual Abuse Support) outlined the sexual harassment at work training her organisation offers

  • Heather Jury - Strategic Lead for Health and Physical Activity, West of England Sport Trust (Wesport) discussed a project that's using sport and physical activity to tackle violence against women and girls in the region

  • Amanda Ritchie - Senior Projects, Evaluation and Insights Manager, Avon and Somerset Violence Reduction Partnership offered us an insight into  police education on VAWG and misogyny
