West of England Women’s Commission seeks new Gender Expert Commissioner

We are seeking a dynamic & informed expert to serve as the West of England Women Commission’s Gender Equality Research and Strategy Commissioner.

Following its establishment a few months ago, West of England Women’s Commission is seeking a gender expert to join local cross sector leaders and embed world-class research and knowledge into the commission’s work.

Responsibilities:

  • Keep up to date with world-class research, data, and innovative

  • practices related to gender equality across multiple sectors and geographies

  • Proactively bring forward emerging global trends, frameworks, and evidence-based approaches that could accelerate progress on gender equity in the West of England region

  • Unpick and translate complex research into accessible insights for Commission members, outlining clear implications for policy and initiative design.

  • Provide thought leadership to help shape the Commission’s strategic direction and elevate its communications

  • Collaborate with stakeholders and experts (e.g., local, regional and national government, academic leaders) offering expert insight for reports, events and communications

Role requirements:

Based in the West of England region with good knowledge of the local area and challenges faced by women and girls in the region

  • Currently engaged in gender related research in the West of England region

  • Published academic/researcher with track record of impactful work in the area of gender equality

  • Deep understanding of gender equality research and its real-world applications, especially in economic policy, workplace equity health outcomes, and public safety

  • Experience working with, or advising politicians, governmental bodies, charities or think tanks

  • Proven experience of translating complex research into easy-to-understand deliverable strategic recommendations and plain English communications

This is a voluntary role. We expect this role will require an average of 1-2 days per month- a little more when compiling reports. You will be required to attend bi-monthly meetings in different locations in the region and collaborate with a range of commissioners and partners from different sectors.
