Zara Nanu MBE joins West of England Women’s Commission as Gender Expert
West of England Women’s Commission has appointed global gender equality pioneer Dr Zara Nanu MBE as its Gender Equality Research and Strategy Commissioner.
Zara, who is based in the region, was previously a member of the Bristol Women’s Commission and was instrumental in helping set up the Bristol Women in Business Charter as Chair of the Women in Business Task Group.
But her impact extends way beyond the region, as she took the fight for women’s equality global as CEO of Gapsquare - the technology-based approach to tracking and closing the gender pay gap.
Like West of England Women’s Commission Chair Penny Gane, Zara has an honorary degree from UWE Bristol - who also sit on the commission. She is also is a member of the Harvard Women’s Leadership Board at the Harvard Kennedy School.
Zara, who was appointed following an open call, said: “I’m delighted to start a new position as Gender Equality Research and Strategy Expert at West of England Women’s Commission. I look forward to supporting Chair Penny Gane’s efforts to improve the lives of women and girls in our region by shaping our strategy and implementing global best practices locally.”
Chair Penny Gane added: “This is brilliant news for our new commission. Zara is globally renowned for her work tackling women’s inequality in the workplace, and brings such expertise, passion and drive to the commission - exactly what we need. I’m very much looking forward to working with her again.”
